What is Industrial Sand?
Industrial sand is high-purity silica sand with uniform grain size and clean, well-rounded grains. It is made up of two main elements: silica and oxygen. To be considered a ‘silica’ or ‘industrial’ sand and be suited to industrial and manufacturing applications, the sand must contain at least 95% silica and oxygen. Any less than that and it is known as ‘regular’ or ‘construction’ sand.

What is Industrial Sand Used For?
Industrial sand is hard, chemically inert, and has a high melting point. These properties make it well suited to applications such as foundries and filtration systems. Its strength and non-reactive properties also make it a vital ingredient in the production processes of thousands of everyday products. That includes everything from metal, ceramic, and glass to grouting, paint, and non-slip flooring.
Here are just a few of the applications that our high-purity industrial sand is suited to:
Industrial abrasives – Silica sand is commonly used as a mineral abrasive for industrial blasting.
Water filtration – Whether filtering tap water or processing well water, the uniform shape of industrial sand and its non-reactive properties make it perfect for water filtration.
- Golf courses and sports fields – Its excellent drainage properties make industrial sand well suited to maintaining greens, fairways, and turf sports fields. It’s also used to fill the bunkers you spend too much of your time in.
- Paints and coatings – Industrial sand is often used in paints and coatings to improve the finish and increase its ability to withstand wear and tear.
- Glassmaking – From windows to beer bottles, industrial sand is one of the primary ingredients in the glassmaking process. The purity of the sand influences the color, strength, and clarity of the final product.
- Ceramics – Industrial sand serves as the structural backbone in ceramics such as floor tiles, wall tiles, and tableware.
